"On May 24th my children caught thirty-two trout. This was not something that happened every day. Even though we live only a few yards from a trout river, the children have never particularly enjoyed fishing (the rule that they had to clean what caught may have been something of a deterrent!). It was the most classic painting of the series, the most colourful, and the simplest. Probably that is why I now feel that it is one of the most successful images to emerge from that May 24th holiday."
Mary Pratt, born in 1935 in Fredericton, New Brunswick, studied at the University of New Brunswick Summer School under Fritz Banter and G. Pinsky, and at Mount Allison School of Fine Arts.
